THE TIDES is a small browser narrative where tide-pool wandering meets card consultation and reputation management. Its PICO-8 frame keeps the world compact, while the premise turns each rumor you choose into part of the story you tell about yourself.

What is THE TIDES?

This is less a fortune teller than a pocket-sized social ritual. You move with the arrow keys, use Z and X, explore the shore, and let cards mingle with the rumors attached to your character. The pairing is wonderfully odd: tidal spaces suggest things washing in and out, while the rumor choices ask what should stick. A spare fantasy-console format gives that idea room to feel mysterious without burying it under interface furniture.

What you can do there

  • Explore tide pools
  • Consult cards and choose rumors

Why we picked it

THE TIDES combines three ingredients that rarely share a cartridge: coastal exploration, tarot-like symbolism, and deliberate gossip. That precise blend makes the game memorable before a single plot detail is explained, and its compact presentation invites curiosity instead of demanding a long commitment.

How to get the most from it

Start with the arrow keys for movement and Z or X for actions. Read the cards and rumor choices slowly rather than treating them as a score puzzle. If the in-game text is difficult to read, the itch.io page offers a raw-text RTF transcript below the game.

Good to know

The browser game is marked Released and the transcript uses name-your-own-price download terms. Audio, saving, touch controls, and the full accessibility behavior are not documented. The page's frame policy also means it should be opened directly on itch.io.
