START FROM 0 turns binary, color, and pixel-art painting into a compact incremental climb. Nanobits buy upgrades, system crashes threaten progress, and each reboot pushes the tiny machine toward a richer visual form rather than just a more ridiculous number.

What is START FROM 0?

The game dresses its idle loop as a fragile computer waking up piece by piece. You generate Nanobits, shop from a sidebar, and shepherd a coding-themed canvas from raw bits toward symbols, colors, and octal shapes. Patch 1.1 adds a useful pinch of danger: System Integrity runs down, harder settings can shave Nanobits from a reset, and upgrades let you stretch the clock or protect more progress. It remains a small in-development experiment, but the art-and-computation metaphor gives the familiar reset cycle a clear destination. Jam voters noticed the look, ranking the patched build third for art and tenth overall.

What you can do there

  • Generate Nanobits and buy sidebar upgrades
  • Carry progress through system crashes and reboots
  • Advance a coding-themed painting from bits toward richer forms

Why we picked it

Plenty of incrementals promise a number that becomes another number. START FROM 0 makes the climb visible as a painting and wraps every reset in a collapsing-computer fiction. That gives a few minutes of waiting and upgrading a pleasantly handmade sense of construction.

How to get the most from it

Choose Run Start, let Nanobits accumulate, and use the sidebar to improve integrity, painting speed, or reset retention. Difficulty can be changed in settings; start easy enough to read the loop, then raise it if the reboot pressure feels too sleepy. The page also offers desktop and Android downloads on a name-your-own-price basis.

Good to know

The project is still marked in development. Early jam feedback found its later phases passive and asked for clearer active choices or a tutorial. The page lists mouse input and five languages; Patch 1.1 says mobile menus improved, but current touch behavior and localization quality remain unverified. Coding and localization include disclosed machine assistance.
