Crossings is a 20-second game poem set at a zebra crossing in Rotterdam. It pares the city down to signals, waiting bodies, and one small act of movement, then lets an ordinary street rhythm briefly look choreographed.

What is Crossings?

A pedestrian crossing is already a tiny game system: stand, read the signal, move, and trust that everyone else understands the same rules. Crossings compresses that familiar routine into the length of a single breath. The creator built it from time spent beside a real Rotterdam signal, treating the place itself as part of the design process. Jam participants noticed the blend of real-world background imagery with drawn and dimensional elements, a useful collision of documentary texture and playful abstraction. It is over almost immediately, but that brevity sharpens the point: even waiting at a curb has timing, roles, and a little room for disobedience.

What you can do there

  • Watch and participate in a compressed traffic-light cycle
  • Notice the choreography of waiting and crossing in public space

Why we picked it

This is a rare microgame whose shortness is not merely a gimmick. Twenty seconds is just enough time to recognize a public ritual that usually vanishes into habit. The result turns infrastructure into performance without inflating a tiny observation into a lecture.

How to get the most from it

Launch the game poem and give the full traffic-light cycle your attention before replaying it. The page labels the piece one-button and touch-friendly, with keyboard, mouse, and touchscreen input available; use the visible action rather than looking for a conventional movement tutorial. A second pass is useful for watching the street instead of your own role in it.

Good to know

The default experience was created for a jam that required 20 seconds or less, so expect a moment rather than a campaign. The current page, creator note, jam record, and participant feedback were inspected without running the embedded Godot build; live input, exact visuals, field audio, replay behavior, device support, accessibility, and privacy remain untested.
