The Morse Game

A one-button Morse desk where every dot, dash, and vanished character raises the pulse.

The Morse Game turns a telegraph key into a compact pressure cooker. Read the printer's pattern, reproduce it with taps and holds, then keep your nerve as characters disappear or demand inverted signals. It is a small prototype with a wonderfully specific job to do.

What is The Morse Game?

A message arrives from somewhere above your pay grade, and the machinery expects a clean reply. The browser game reduces that assignment to one input: tap quickly for a dot or hold a little longer for a dash. That small timing distinction gives the desk its tension. Once the rhythm settles in, the prototype starts tugging away at your safety net. Characters can vanish while you work, underlined marks reverse the expected signal, and the updated build places each transmission on a clock. The result is less a broad Morse lesson than a focused little performance about reading, remembering, and keeping a steady finger while the room quietly insists that this is urgent.

What you can do there

  • Read a printed Morse-code message
  • Transmit dots and dashes with short taps and longer holds
  • Adapt to disappearing and inverted characters

Why we picked it

The single-button design is immediately legible, but it has enough room for mischief. Disappearing notation and signal inversion turn a familiar code chart into a memory-and-timing puzzle, while the printer, instruments, and terse premise give a tiny mechanic an outsized sense of consequence.

How to get the most from it

Choose Run game on the itch page. On a computer, use the Spacebar; on mobile, tap the screen. Make dots with quick presses and dashes with longer holds. Read the full pattern before sending when you can, because later messages may hide characters or flip the meaning of underlined marks.

Good to know

The project page labels this an in-development Unity prototype and offers browser, Windows, and Android versions. A documented June 2024 update added clearer feedback and time limits, but the current live build, audio, ending, compatibility, and accessibility behavior were not independently exercised. The itch page allows framing only within itch.io, so Site Stumble should open it as a directory destination rather than inside the Stumble frame.

Who made it, and when?

deemodev, GRORRE, Leila Karamitalab, Mr.Mark, and jonasmack is the credited creator or organization. A documented update was recorded June 21, 2024.
