Close Hue asks you to turn a color name into a color choice, then scores how near your mental swatch landed. Five prompts make up the daily round, turning vague words like paint names and pigments into a compact little guessing game.

What is Close Hue?

Color names make all of us slightly overconfident. We say ‘cerulean’ as if the hue is sitting in a labeled drawer somewhere, then discover that our private version is a few shades off. Close Hue turns that mismatch into its whole game. The daily format serves five names and measures how close each guess gets, while the project's own methodology shows that the prompts are drawn from a deliberately mixed collection of historical, crowdsourced, design-system, and hand-curated names. It is a neat invitation to make peace with the fact that language and eyesight do not always agree.

Why we picked it

It makes a familiar word feel strange again. The game has a wonderfully small premise, but its color-name pool gives the prompts more personality than a parade of plain reds and blues.
