pressspace

Fix the spaces in a runaway sentence before the story outruns you.

pressspace turns typing into a one-key score attack. A ribbon of words arrives with every gap removed; your job is to punch in the missing spaces, keep the story readable, and watch the pace climb as correct breaks build a combo.

What is pressspace?

Most typing games demand the alphabet. pressspace delegates the letters to the machine and leaves you responsible for the tiny breaths between them. Joined words slide past automatically, and each tap decides where one ends and the next begins. Correct choices reveal the story, feed a combo, and make the stream hurry along, so the humble space bar becomes equal parts editor's pencil and arcade trigger. It is a clean fit for Ludum Dare 41's challenge to combine incompatible genres: text parsing meets escalating score attack.

What you can do there

  • Insert spaces into a stream of joined words
  • Build a combo by finding word boundaries
  • Keep pace as the text accelerates

Why we picked it

The control scheme is almost comically economical, but the mental load is not. Turning blank space into the only thing you can add makes punctuation-adjacent proofreading feel urgent, readable, and surprisingly game-like.

How to get the most from it

Read ahead of the moving text and press the space bar exactly where each word should end. Favor accuracy while the pace is gentle; a growing combo accelerates the stream, so guessing early can turn the next sentence into alphabet soup.

Good to know

The browser version is free, and the Windows download uses a name-your-own-price model. The listing marks the game as one-button accessible, but the live speed curve, pausing, touch support, font scaling, audio, screen-reader behavior, and failure flow were not tested here. Its current framing policy makes this a direct-open profile.
