mew's under the truck is a few-minute Bitsy story about the era when gaming secrets traveled by playground, magazine, and somebody's suspiciously well-connected cousin. Its centerpiece is the famously false promise of a hidden Mew beneath one very ordinary truck.
What is mew's under the truck?
Before every odd corner of a game had a wiki page, rumors could turn a stray background object into a portal to the impossible. npckc's short interactive fiction preserves that feeling through the best-known example: the truck near Pokémon's S.S. Anne, under which Mew was definitely hiding if you performed the correct impossible ritual. Made for a museum-themed Bitsy jam, the piece treats old cartridges and half-remembered instructions as cultural artifacts rather than trivia to debunk. It is less a Pokémon adventure than a compact reflection on childhood certainty, shared misinformation, and the lovely suspicion that a game might still contain more world than anyone had mapped.
What you can do there
- Follow a brief reflection on old gaming rumors
- Revisit the Mew-under-the-truck legend through a museum-themed jam work
Why we picked it
The title lands like a secret password for anyone raised on pre-wiki game lore. Turning one disproven rumor into a miniature museum exhibit is specific, funny, and unexpectedly tender; the little work preserves not the cheat, but the feeling of wanting it to be true.
How to get the most from it
Run the browser version and use the listed keyboard or touchscreen controls to follow the short interactive-fiction path. Set aside a few minutes, read at its own pace, and bring whatever impossible cheat code your schoolyard once swore was real.
Good to know
The game is in English, lists a few-minute session, and can also be downloaded on a name-your-own-price basis; the editable Bitsy source is listed for payments of at least two dollars. The live route, exact text, secret content, audio, accessibility, and device behavior were not tested. It is a reflection on gaming rumor culture, not a factual Mew-catching guide, and itch.io's frame policy requires opening it directly.
