CozyClay is a browser-based previsualization studio for blocking an AI-video shot before committing to a generated take. Its landing page offers a hosted playground, while the fuller local workflow turns simple sets, posed characters, camera moves, cuts, and storyboards into reference material for downstream video tools.

What is CozyClay?

The useful trick here is separating shot design from final-image polish. CozyClay starts with cubes, cylinders, rigged figures, or capsule stand-ins, then gives the camera its own timeline, dolly rails, cranes, lenses, and cut points. The documented export shelf is unusually practical: first and last frames, a greybox clip, camera data, depth and normal passes, contact sheets, storyboards, an animatic, and an OTIO cut list can all leave from the same rough scene. Agent controls are optional rather than the whole premise; the scene can also be worked through the visible editor, an MCP connection, or a terminal interface. Think of it as a rehearsal room for framing, not a place to finish the movie.

What you can do there

  • Block scenes with simple 3D objects and characters
  • Plan camera moves and cuts on a timeline
  • Export visual references for an AI video workflow

Why we picked it

Most AI-video tools begin at the prompt box. CozyClay backs up one step and makes the spatial decisions tangible: who stands where, how the camera travels, and exactly when the shot changes. That narrow job gives the site a clear reason to exist, and the rough-blocking aesthetic keeps attention on composition instead of shiny assets.

How to get the most from it

Use the hosted playground for a quick look at the scene-building idea. For a real trial, follow the documented local setup in a Chromium browser, build one short shot, save and reopen it, then inspect the greybox clip and keyframe pack before involving a paid video model. Start with manual edits; add an agent or MCP client only after the visible editor connection is behaving.

Good to know

The local studio requires Node.js 22.19 or newer, a Chromium-based browser, and WebGL; Safari and Firefox are not the documented path. The website records anonymous usage counts and stores a pseudonymous identifier in localStorage, while the npm package has separate telemetry with documented opt-outs. Connected agent features may require a provider sign-in or key. The studio was not rendered during this review, and an independent October source check built successfully but reported a failing test command, so verify save, reopen, and export behavior with a tiny project first.
