WE ARE KINGS turns a shared palace into a compact map of love, memory, and fallout. A few early choices shape the weather and your position, then linked passages lead through intimate rooms while a second voice remembers what the place once held.

What is WE ARE KINGS?

The story begins by asking what the weather feels like and whether you are inside, outside, or caught in the doorway. From there, the palace opens as a set of small, emotionally loaded routes: make tea or coffee in the kitchen, inspect the library walls, climb toward the bedroom, or keep moving until the garden appears. Variables quietly carry those selections into later passages, so domestic details become pieces of the relationship rather than inventory. The royal language is metaphor, not pageantry; this is a short conversation between two people who built a kingdom together and now have to look at what remains.

What you can do there

  • Choose details for a shared mental palace
  • Follow linked passages through remembered rooms
  • Revisit choices with the story controls

Why we picked it

The palace is a smart container for a difficult conversation. Ordinary objects—a kettle, an alarm clock, a shelf of books—do the work that exposition usually would, while the branching structure lets the reader choose how quickly to approach the sore spots. It is small enough for one sitting but specific enough to leave an afterimage.

How to get the most from it

Answer the opening questions by instinct, then follow whichever room sounds least comfortable; the sharper passages tend to sit behind ordinary furniture. The interface also labels Rewind, Restart, and Bookmark controls, useful if you want to compare another route or preserve your place.

Good to know

It is an English-language Twine work labeled as a few-minute, one-button experience with mouse, touchscreen, and smartphone input. The current frame policy is itch.io-only, so expect to open it directly there. Audio and assistive-technology behavior were not independently tested.
