What is OneZoom Tree of Life?

OneZoom treats evolutionary relationships as a navigable landscape. The trunk separates into major lineages, branches divide again and again, and individual species appear as leaves. Zooming preserves context, so a familiar animal remains visibly connected to enormous stretches of life. Photos, conservation information, names, and dates add detail without replacing the central branching structure.

Why we picked it

A conventional tree of life quickly becomes too large for a page. The fractal approach turns that scale into the experience and makes relatedness spatially intuitive.

How to get the most from it

Search for a familiar species, then slowly zoom outward to see its neighboring branches and common ancestors. Follow an unfamiliar branch back inward for a second journey.
