Weird & Wonderful

Kontroller

A tiny space shooter that makes your keyboard audition for gamepad duty.

Kontroller asks you to grip a keyboard sideways like a controller, then fly a triangle ship, shoot descending aliens, and juggle three skills. The physical gag is the design: familiar keys become a deliberately strange handheld control surface.

What is Kontroller?

The screen holds a compact arcade shooter, but the real playfield is the slab of keys in your hands. Kontroller rearranges the mental map of a keyboard by asking you to hold it like a gamepad, steer a tiny ship, fire on green invaders, and reach for three special moves as the pace rises. The joke survives because it creates genuine friction. Different layouts, browser shortcuts, and the distance between keys all become part of the challenge. A later remapping screen softens the roughest edges without sanding away the premise.

What you can do there

  • Hold a keyboard like a gamepad
  • Move a triangle spaceship and shoot descending aliens
  • Use three skills and chase a rising score

Why we picked it

This is hardware comedy with a playable consequence. The page's absurd setup takes seconds to understand, and the awkward hunt for buttons makes an otherwise simple shooter feel newly physical.

How to get the most from it

Try the default mapping once with a detached keyboard if possible. If the grip or layout fights back, press Space on the tutorial screen and remap the controls before chasing a higher score.

Good to know

A desktop keyboard is the practical fit; lifting a notebook may be uncomfortable, and some layouts can collide with browser shortcuts. The page says both numpad and non-numpad boards are supported, warns that first load may briefly show black, and credits background music and sound effects.
