Weird & Wonderful

Hello, World!

A tiny pixel-art reunion where a game jam redraws itself, one handmade sprite at a time.

Hello, World! turns the Let's Games! Tokyo jam site into a pocket-sized Bitsy room. Wander among participant-drawn avatars, chat with the people behind them, gather small objects, and keep an eye out for puns tucked into the floor plan.

What is Hello, World!?

This is a group photo you can walk through. The room loosely mirrors a bilingual Tokyo Global Game Jam site, but its warmest detail is how much of the digital space began on paper. Participants drew their own tiny avatars and messages inside eight-by-eight grids. Yahya Danboos sketched the venue layout on graph paper, while CJ and mabbees found the music by singing, trying notes on the room's piano, and drawing a score before it entered the game. The polished Bitsy version gathers those scraps into a short social stroll: meet the jammers, pick up a few things, and hunt for the jokes they left behind.

What you can do there

  • Walk through a miniature game-jam room
  • Talk to jammer avatars
  • Collect items and find hidden puns

Why we picked it

Plenty of jam games preserve a weekend's output; this one preserves the room and the people in it. Its paper-to-pixel process makes every avatar feel like a signed tile in a communal mosaic, and the explorable format turns event documentation into a small act of hospitality.

How to get the most from it

Select Run game on the itch page, follow the build's movement cues, and take your time speaking with each avatar. Check corners and objects instead of rushing across the room: the appeal lives in participant messages, small pickups, and hidden wordplay rather than a demanding win condition.

Good to know

The page labels this as a released HTML5 adventure made with Bitsy and identifies it as the polished version of the jam project. Music is credited, but sound behavior, controls, mobile support, accessibility, saving, and the ending were not independently exercised. The page's frame policy limits embedding to itch.io, so Site Stumble should treat it as a directory-only destination.

Who made it, and when?

CJ (illuminesce), with Yahya Danboos and mabbees is the credited creator or organization.
