Hardwork Simulator

A fake word processor where typing is both camouflage and ammunition.

Hardwork Simulator hides a small arcade defense game inside an office-document gag. Type to advance the page, then spend the letters you have produced to swat away stick figures and their cursor-shaped attacks before your suspiciously unstable workspace collapses.

What is Hardwork Simulator?

The joke arrives immediately: what looks like determined document work is actually a keyboard-mashing survival game. The text you produce is more than scenery. Individual letters become expendable defenses against stick figures prowling below the page, while missed cursor attacks erase chunks of progress. That creates a tidy little tension between appearing productive and throwing your productivity at the problem. The current browser build also advertises a boss encounter, a progress display, adjustable typing speed, and held-key support added after the original jam version.

What you can do there

  • Type through a fake office document
  • Drop letters to block cursor attacks

Why we picked it

The office disguise is not merely a skin pasted over a shooter. Typing creates the resource you must sacrifice, so the central joke and the mechanical tradeoff are the same thing. It is a compact, legible example of a game-jam premise doing real design work.

How to get the most from it

Open the browser build with a physical keyboard ready. Build up text before spending letters too freely, watch the lower edge of the document for incoming cursors, and adjust the typing speed if the opening pace drags. The downloadable PC ZIP preserves the original competition build.

Good to know

The itch page offers browser play plus a 25 MB Windows download on a name-your-own-price basis, and it still labels the project in development. Expect frequent keyboard input, moving projectiles, and an in-game blue-screen effect; audio, touch support, and accessibility options are undocumented.
