GenTown is R74n’s browser-based civilization simulator, where you guide a planet indirectly through prompts and choices. Settle the first town, advance the days, and watch a human society acquire needs, systems, conflicts, and a history of its own.

What is GenTown?

GenTown gives you a randomly generated planet and the unnerving privilege of being consulted by the people who live on it. You begin by choosing a spot for a settlement, then follow the town as days pass and the simulation starts stacking consequences. The central trick is restraint: inhabitants ask for direction, but their affairs do not wait politely for a perfect plan. The visible interface includes towns, projects, statistics, a timeline, and a record of unlocks, which makes the game feel part strategy toy and part municipal scrapbook from a very strange world. R74n’s launch notes point to a broader society of economies, trade, laws, revolutions, disasters, and relationships. It is less about micromanaging a single resident than nudging a whole civilization and learning what your tiny decisions set loose.

Why we picked it
