Calm & Satisfying

Four Divine Abidings

An idle game where compassion and a very patient progress bar share the same meditation cushion.

Four Divine Abidings turns the familiar wait-and-upgrade loop into a Buddhist-inspired journey through loving-kindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity. It is free in the browser, visually gentle, and built for measured progress rather than a quick burst of clicking.

What is Four Divine Abidings?

A continuously filling Effort meter keeps the journey moving. At encounters, its cycles trade physical and mental energy for progress; back at Home, those reserves recover. Guided tasks gradually introduce a wider nest of skills, insights, spiritual tools, milestones, Karma Seeds, and rebirths, so the quiet surface hides a fairly busy set of interlocking systems. Hand-painted backdrops and relaxing music soften the arithmetic, while optional lore gives the numbers a philosophical spine. The result is less a sprint toward a giant total than a long, deliberate habit of tending several small fires.

What you can do there

  • Balance Effort with physical and mental energy
  • Complete encounters and guided tasks
  • Unlock skills, tools, milestones, and rebirth upgrades

Why we picked it

Most incremental games make numbers louder. This one asks them to sit down, breathe, and practice kindness. That thematic commitment gives familiar idle mechanics an unusual shape, and the combination of painted scenery, reflective text, and completion-focused progression makes it more than a reskinned counter.

How to get the most from it

Follow the early tasks and use the explanations before trying to optimize everything at once. Alternate encounters with Home when your energy runs low, experiment with free respecs, and treat the first session as orientation. If you switch devices, use the documented save export and import rather than starting over.

Good to know

The pace is intentionally slow, the terminology takes some learning, and independent reviewers found the opening dense despite its guidance. The creator says mobile works but recommends a larger screen, with PC ideal. An older browser comment reported long-session freezing; the current build was not tested for that issue. Music is part of the presentation, but its controls were not checked.
