Follow My Voice is a short, audio-only first-person puzzle built around directional listening. A friendly ghost calls from somewhere in the dark, while footsteps and tossed rocks help sketch the maze in sound. Headphones, a keyboard, and a mouse are the practical admission ticket.
What is Follow My Voice?
There is no helpful torch, glowing outline, or mini-map waiting at the bottom of this hole. Instead, the level arrives through your ears: a ghost's voice suggests a direction, your own movement establishes distance, and a rock meeting a wall offers a rough acoustic pencil line. The absence of visuals is not a flourish pasted onto an ordinary maze; it is the maze. Household objects recorded for the sound set give the experiment a pleasantly handmade edge, while the short game-jam scale keeps getting lost from becoming a permanent address.
What you can do there
- Follow a ghost's voice through a dark maze
- Throw rocks at walls to probe surrounding space
Why we picked it
Audio is usually atmosphere or feedback. Here it carries the entire floor plan. That inversion is bold, immediately understandable, and strong enough to earn the top Audio result at Ludum Dare 48, even if the intentionally uncertain navigation can still tie your inner compass in knots.
How to get the most from it
Put on stereo headphones, switch the itch.io player to full screen, then use WASD to move and the mouse to turn. Follow the ghost's voice toward the exit. Left-click to throw a rock when you need a longer-range clue about nearby walls, and make small turns when reorienting.
Good to know
Directional audio is essential and there are no visuals by design. The browser build uses keyboard movement plus mouse look, and desktop downloads are also available. Some Ludum Dare players found the rock cues hard to distinguish or turning difficult to judge, so expect a little deliberate disorientation.
