Colonist brings Catan-style settlement building into a busy browser lobby with bot practice, casual and ranked matchmaking, private rooms, spectating, and chat. The base-game door is easy to spot, while memberships, login gates, and expansion choices make the surrounding hall a little more involved.

What is Colonist?

The familiar rhythm is all here: claim useful intersections, gather resources from dice rolls, barter with the table, stretch roads across the island, and race toward ten points. Colonist wraps that contest in a lobby that can send you toward bots, online opponents, a room shared with friends, or somebody else's open match as a spectator. Room controls expose timers, player limits, rules, invitations, readiness, and chat, so this is less a tiny web diversion than a full digital game room. A newer Rush mode changes the tempo with simultaneous building and trading for players who prefer their resource squabbles at a sprint.

What you can do there

  • Play the base game against bots
  • Join casual or ranked online matches
  • Create a private room for friends
  • Spectate open rooms

Why we picked it

It turns a setup-heavy tabletop ritual into a link you can share, yet keeps the negotiation and tactical jostling at the center. The mix of bots, private rooms, public matchmaking, ranked play, and spectating gives both practice-minded newcomers and seasoned road barons a clear seat at the table.

How to get the most from it

Start with bots if the interface or rules are new, then move to a private room when everyone knows where the readiness control lives. Check the room's timer, player limit, map, and rules before starting; competitive regulars can head to Ranked, while the impatient can investigate Rush.

Good to know

Colonist is an independent Catan-style adaptation, not the official Catan app. WebGL and browser hardware acceleration are required. The lobby promotes membership for access to all maps and expansions, and some modes require login. The team has also been steering phone play toward portrait orientation.
