Weird & Wonderful

Astronomini

Name constellations in a shared pocket universe before gravity names your crater.

Astronomini is a tiny asynchronous space expedition with a community-sized to-do list. Pilot a ship, light the stars of a constellation, give the pattern a name, and leave that discovery behind for other explorers to encounter.

What is Astronomini?

Built in 48 hours for Kenney Jam 2023, Astronomini turns a simple WASD spacecraft into a communal naming pen. The universe is shared asynchronously: completing a constellation lets you claim it, and its name becomes part of the landscape for later visitors. That makes each short flight feel connected to a much larger cleanup map, even when nobody else is present at the same moment. Gravity and collision pressure keep the trip from becoming a frictionless screensaver, while the global goal gives all that wandering a faintly absurd civic purpose: together, put a label on the cosmos.

What you can do there

  • Pilot a ship with WASD
  • Light stars to complete constellations
  • Name constellations for other players to find

Why we picked it

The multiplayer idea is unusually economical. Other players appear through the names they have planted in space rather than through a lobby or chat window, so exploration doubles as a quiet encounter with strangers' discoveries. Its strong jam placement backs up the cleverness of that small shared-world premise.

How to get the most from it

Use WASD to steer through space. Seek out a constellation, light all of its stars, then name the completed pattern so it becomes visible to future explorers. Start with a short flight while you learn how the ship responds to nearby gravity.

Good to know

The browser build is free and requires keyboard input. Jam-era players reported steep gravity, limited visibility, and occasional crashes; the creators later documented improved controls and camera behavior, but current stability was not independently tested. Audio, touch support, saving, privacy behavior, and the present state of the shared universe remain unverified.
