Arboreal Demigod

A pocket-sized forest sim where divine gardening meets fires, crows, and inconvenient woodcutters.

Arboreal Demigod is a brief browser ecosystem simulation about spending life energy to grow a forest, nourish animals, and answer threats. Its appeal is less grand strategy than tiny-chain-reaction curiosity: plant something, watch creatures use it, and see what the woods do next.

What is Arboreal Demigod?

The premise gives god-game powers a pleasingly muddy pair of boots. You absorb life, spend that energy on new growth, feed animals with seeds, put out fires, and defend the canopy from woodcutters. Creator notes describe a circular ecological gag with real mechanical teeth: animals eat seeds and eventually return them to the landscape, where more trees can sprout. Later objectives track odd little measures such as ceremonies attended or woodcutters absorbed. The result reads as a compact side-scrolling terrarium rather than a sprawling management epic, built for watching a few systems nudge one another over a short visit.

What you can do there

  • Create and absorb life to shape a forest
  • Feed animals by spawning seed-bearing trees
  • Respond to fires and woodcutters

Why we picked it

Few forest games put worship, seed digestion, fire control, and crow population balance in the same small toy box. That mix is specific, legible, and just strange enough to make a few minutes of ecological tinkering feel like a miniature myth with squirrels in the machinery.

How to get the most from it

Open the embedded game on itch.io and begin with the simple life-creation loop. Give the simulation a few minutes to reveal how trees, animals, energy, fires, and human threats connect; mouse or touch are the inputs listed by the creator.

Good to know

The project is currently marked on hold, and its latest public devlog is dated November 2017. The live mechanics, audio, accessibility, current mobile behavior, and parity with the documented 0.5.1 build were not verified, so treat it as a small preserved experiment rather than an actively maintained sim. The destination's frame policy also means it should be opened directly rather than expected to run inside Site Stumble.

Who made it, and when?

Corey Van Hoosen is the credited creator or organization. A documented update was recorded November 18, 2017.
